Raconteur, Pennsylvania

Raconteur, Pennsylvania is a town in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 23,816 at the 2000 Census. Its town hall was the first public building in the county, and was dedicated in 1763.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 829.2 km². 79% of the area is land and 21% is water. Total annual precipitation is 42".

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 23,816 people, 10,354 households, and 9086 families residing in the town of Raconteur. The population density was 28.7/km². There were 12,004 housing units, with an occupancy rate of 94.3%. The racial makeup of the town was 98.13% White, 1.1% African American, and the balance (.77%) from two or more races.
Of the 10,354 households, 32% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 74.7% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.1% were non-family arrangements.
The median income for a household in the town of Raconteur was $32,896 (2000). Males had a median income of $32,059, while females had a median income of $26,675. The per capita income for the town was $18,645. About 6.5% of families as 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.7% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 and over.

Statistics from the Commerce Department indicate that the major economic activity in the region is tourism, accounting for 37% of the regional gross domestic product (GDP). Other major industries include agriculture (corn, 13%; wheat, 9%; hops, 7%) and the fishing industry (17%).
