"Radio Free Europe" was R.E.M.'s first single from their debut album, Murmur. This version is a re-recording of the version that was released on the Hib-Tone label two years earlier.
At the request of MTV, the single was accompanied by a music video, directed by Arthur Pierson. The video took place in the garden of artist Howard Finster, who would go on to paint the album cover for the band's second album, Reckoning.
[edit] Cover versions
Versions of the song have been included on several R.E.M. tribute albums, including one on 1992's Surprise Your Pig by the band Just Say No.
