Rajnandgaon is the name of the primary town in the Rajnandgaon District, in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. The population of the city is 143,727 (2001 census). Asia's only Performing Art and Music University is located in Khairagarh.
The town is surrounded by ponds and rivers. Rajnandgaon is also known for education, with its dental college, engineering college, agricultural college, IT college, Ayurvedic college, and one of the oldest Wesleyan missionary boards which runs a Wesleyan school. There are also residential and day schools such as Yugantar Public School, Royal Kids' Convent, and Indian Public School.
The town is known for its small-scale industries and traders. Another name used for the city is Shanskardhani because its residents are very peaceful, live in harmony, and are very religious.
