[edit] Rambagh Palace, Jaipur
Nicknamed the "Jewel of Jaipur." Previously a hunting lodge, named in 1835, Rambagh was converted to a palace in 1925 after Maharajah Sawai Man Singh II visited. After India declared independence and the princely states united, the Palace became the Government House. In 1956, the family decided it would become a luxury hotel because it and its 47 acres of gardens was too costly to maintain. In 1972, it fell under ownership of the Taj Hotel Resorts and Palaces group, who still manages it today.
