[edit] Boxer or Kickboxer?
I had thought that he had originally trained as a kickboxer, and later switched to boxing for the bigger money. This seems much more likely given the fact that he could have been training in martial arts since a young age, but a man with his size/frame deciding to all-of-a-sudden become a kickboxer midway through his 20s isn't as likely.
