Rayat

Rayat (ਰਾਇਤ in Gurmukhi & राइत in Devnagri) is a surname in Ramgarhia cast in Punjab, India. They are usually followers of the Sikh religion inhabiting in the Doaba region of Punjab. Rayat, Riat and Riyat are actually same despite of different spellings.
Nirmal Singh Rayat, NRI from UK has set up various institutions under Rayat Educational and Research Trust including the name RAYAT. One of them is Rayat Institute of Engineering and Information Technology located in Ropar, Punjab.
