Steven Runciman's "History of the crusades" states that leaving Toulouse, count Raymond tested and left his ilegitimate first son Bertrand as rector and heir. He took his younger and legitimate son Alphonse Jourdan with him to the First Crusade. When count Raymond was about to die, he decided Alphonse to succeed in the County of Toulouse, and Bertrand in the County of Tripoli, as Alphonse was too young to fight against the muslim enemies that surrounded Tripoli. Even the autor of the linked web-page http://membres.lycos.fr/ignacel/comtes.html confirms the fact that Bertrand only left Toulouse for the Holy Land in 1109, giving the title of count of Toulouse to his younger brother.151.25.90.28 11:55, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Davide Caroncini davidecaroncini@hotmail.com
