Shoot from the Hip (2003) |
Read My Lips is the first solo album released by pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Released on August 27, 2001 by Polydor. The title was presumed to be based on a quote by U.S. president George H. W. Bush from his 1992 campaign in which he said he wouldn't raise taxes; actually, it's simply based on a line from the song "The Universe Is You". It sold about 800,000 copies in the United Kingdom[2], and a little over 2 million copies worldwide, it became a success in Europe selling over a million copies being certified Platinum, it was also successful in Australia and Latin America.
The album was first released in 2001, but after the success of the single "Murder on the Dancefloor", Polydor (in the United Kingdom) and Universal (International) decided to re-release the album with extra tracks to push the sales up, the re-issue was released in 2002.
