Williams was drafted 9th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the third receiver taken behind Larry Fitzgerald (3rd overall) and Roy Williams (7th overall).
Williams put up disappointing numbers in his rookie season of 2004. He rebounded the first half of 2005, but after having a second half slump brought on by a concussion, was benched in favor of Ernest Wilford.
With the retirement of Jimmy Smith, the Jaguars #1 receiver for the previous decade, before the 2006 season, there will be even more pressure on Reggie Williams to have a breakout year.
After the Jaguars first game of the 2006 season, Williams recorded 47 yards on seven receptions, with the only receiving touchdown of the evening for the Jaguars. Through the first six weeks of the 2006 NFL season Reggie Williams was among the top receivers in the NFL. An injury to the ankle of Byron Leftwich caused Leftwich to miss the remainder of the season. After David Garrard became starting quarterback, Williams production slipped. Williams had his best game as a pro against Washington making 5 catches for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns.
