Remo is an American drumhead company. They are well known for their highly successful Weatherking series, which is now seen on orchestral, world, and marching percussion, and drum sets.
In addition to drumheads, Remo also produces drumsets and ethnic percussion instruments.
[edit] History
Drummer Remo D. Belli experimented with PET film as a possible material for the production of drumheads after World War II due to its consistency in tonal qualities, and resistance to weather changes. REMO was founded in 1957.
[edit] Products
Remo offers a variety of drum heads for drum set, marching, orchestral and other variuos percussion instruments. Most heads come in a variety of finishes. Clear heads, the most basic choice of head offer a bright, open tone. Coated heads add a light, white powder coating over the head to create a warmer tone and add to the durability of the head. Smooth white heads are colored white with no texture coating. These have been referred to as in between coated in clear with a deep, warm tone of coating and the open sound of clear heads. Ebony heads are black heads known for their clear resonance and deep, fat tone. FiberSkyn heads replicate the calf skin heads first used by drummers and yield an open yet warm sound preferred by many Jazz drummers. Drum set heads include: -Diplomat heads, a thin, single-ply with bright open tones and resonant over tones. Good in jazz situations and sometimes used as a reonant side drum head. -Ambassador heads, a medium sized single-ply head, high resonance and sustain but less so than the diplomat. -Emperor heads, a double-ply head with far less overtone and sustain than diplomat and still less than an ambassador. The two plys greatly increase durability. -Pinstripe heads heads are 2 thin plys sandwiching a small layer of oil with a small black ring which dampens the resonance and deepens the tone. -Controlled sound heads are ambassador-weight heads with a large black dot adhered to the bottom side of the head to increase durability and lessens sustain. -Powerstroke 3 heads are a thick, single-ply with a thin double-ring along the outside the outrside of the head. It has a very deep, fat tone with few overtones. -Powerstroke 4 heads are a 2-ply version of the Powerstroke 3. -The Powersonic Bass Drumheads 2-plys with two specifically placed internal subsonic dampening rings with ESDS technology (External Snap-on Dampening System). The two mounted ¾” internal dampening rings enhance low end without fixating trays or hard backed dampening materials to the drumhead. The ESDS system employs snaps mounted directly to the drumhead to eliminate the possibility of vibration. This allows you to easily customize your muffling, feel and sustain for different playing situations by “snapping” the strategically placed weighted pillow to the drumhead.
