Michael Shane Margolin (1 March 1963 – Present) is the founder and High Priest of the Sinagogue of Satan as well as a writer, occultist, poet, and freemason. He is the author of Liber of the Goat and the founder of a brand new Satanism now known as "Occult Satanism", a synthesized system of his understanding of the universe and the insights of philosophers who advocated nihilism and individualism. Almost like Anton LaVey, Margolin viewed "Satan" not as a literal deity or entity, but as a historic and literary figure, a symbolic representation of his aims and goals.

Margolin was born in Washington, D.C. to Rebeca Ann Peterson and Peter Robert Margolin. He is the great grandson of Leon Trotsky's best friend Peter Margolin. He relocated to California where he spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. According to him, his ancestry can be traced to Welch, Jewish, and Russian stock . Margolin met and married Kellise Marshall, who bore him his son, Michael Margolin Jr. in 1990. In 1988 Margolin joined the Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.) by Aleister Crowley and now remains an inactive member, Crowley has had a profound effect on him and came to view reality as subjective as opposed to objective. He joined the Church of Satan by Anton Szandor LaVey in 1996 and disaffiliated in 1999, he also left the First Church of Satan around the same time. After he got tired of joining organizations/groups that preached his ideals but instead found the same old control freak, ego stroking, false hierarchy, money mongering, we-own-you crap, when they preached freedom of the individual in their manifesto's, he then became an ordained priest of the Universal Life Church by Kirby J. Hensley and formed the Sinagogue of Satan.
His interests and accomplishments were wide-ranging—he's a poet, aficionado of chess, and sometimes a social critic. Margolin is perhaps best known in writing Liber of the Goat, Liber Naught, and the Last Peyote Song during 1986 through 1999 but it was Liber of the Goat that was his best work, it is also the central holy book of the Sinagogue of Satan. Margolin was such an influential person, he was also given permission to use and alter Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica (E.G.C.) rituals within the Ordo Templi Orientis for the Sinagogue of Satan to use.
Marshall and Margolin later divorced in 2001 and has a 50/50 custody with their only son.
Margolin has been interviewed on numerous occasions dealing with the topic of Satanism, including spots on Out & About with Roger Martin, The League of Independent Satanists, and more.
Rev. Margolin will run for President of the United States in 2008 as he confirmed in an interview with Bob Ferguson.
Professionally, Margolin is a poet with an acclaimed album from Theophany Records with the most notable track "A Spartan in Wake" and though Theophany Records are Christian-natured theres a quote on their website that reads "Mike Margolin is an American Icon", which came from Mordecai Shapiro, a Gnostic Priest of the Ordo Templi Orientis. David Jones of Enochian fame even said "Mike Margolin is the best living Poet."
He practically became a local celebrity in the Satanic community, he would attract and meet many notables, one of whom being Kenneth Anger.
Margolin gained much notoriety, and is dubbed "Baphomet Rex 666." Like the beast Aleister Crowley. It was probably an epithet that Margolin happily adopted for himself.

Michael Margolin attended Stanton and Szandora LaVey's Wedding on June 6th 2006. That included guests like Glen Danzig, Hank Williams 3, Snoop Dogg, Dolomite, "Knife" Sotelo, Wee Man from Jack Ass and many more including CoS Priests that did not attend the Church of Satan's Satanic Mass on that same night.
