Rib (professional wrestling)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The word Rib is professional wrestling slang for a practical joke. Wrestlers spend a lot of time together in close quarters, and often resort to practical jokes, either to break the monotony, or to get revenge for real or imagined wrongs. Ribs run the gamut from amusing, to annoying, to disgusting, to potentially harmful.
Some examples of ribs include:
- Owen Hart often came out for matches at house shows in mismatched combinations of all the ring gear he's ever worn and wrestle intentionally bad matches to amuse his friends.
- When Jerry Lawler first arrived in the WWF, a group of wrestlers allegedly took turns defecating in the crown he wears to the ring.[1]
- Davey Boy Smith would often place his penis between a hot-dog bun and try and trick a fellow wrestler into trying to have a bite of it.
- When Sable left the WWF on bad terms in 1999, somebody defecated in her gym bag. She later used this incident as evidence in her sexual harassment case against the company.
- While Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith were teaming as the British Bulldogs, Davey asked Dynamite about steroids. Dynamite told Davey he'd give him his first steroid injection. Instead, he injected him with a syringe full of milk. For some time afterwards, wrestlers would "moo" at Davey whenever he came by.
- Dynamite Kid also slipped a yellowjacket into Terry Funk's glass of brandy once.
- Billy Jack Haynes was told by Brian Adams that he was going to get a tryout with the World Wrestling Federation and drove halfway across the United States from Oregon to Texas. When Haynes got there, Adams told him they couldn't use him.
- The WWE character Simon Dean is apparently a joke on former wrestler/WWE road agent Dean Malenko, whose real name is Dean Simon.
- During a tag match between Mick Foley & Al Snow, Hardcore Holly and Crash Holly, The Acolytes, and The Dudley Boyz, Foley convinced Hardcore Holly to performing a stalling suplex on Snow. During the stall (as Foley had convinced him to do earlier), Holly pulled Snow's trunks to reveal his genitalia. The story is told in Foley Is Good as "The Legend of the Penis Suplex."
- Edge and Test wrote "Dick Head" in permanent marker on Matt Hardy's forehead, then put makeup and facial features of The Rock on Christian.
- Bret Hart stated in his Hall of Fame speech, that his brother Owen, would make insulting phone calls, whilst disguising his voice to other superstars hotel rooms, from the reception desk, then tell the receptionist that if they ask who it was he would give another wrestlers name.
- Owen would also call his father Stu, pretending to be one of Stu's many old friends in wrestling. "Stu's friend" would boast that he was tougher than Stu and could have easily beaten Stu at will.
- Steve Austin and Steve Regal (a.k.a. William Regal) once deserted Mick Foley on a gay beach.
- Foley and Austin once crumbled up a bunch of cookies and placed them under the sheets of Diamond Dallas Page's bed when they traveled together.
- B. Brian Blair and Paul Orndorff traveled together for many years. Upon waking up to find a naked Orndorff working out in their hotel room, Blair once inserted a pencil into Orndorff's anus. Orndorff got revenge by ejaculating between Blair's pillows shortly thereafter. These stories were told by Blair during an appearance on Wrestling Observer Live.
