Ribblesdale Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ribblesdale Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies run over a distance of 1 mile 4 furlongs (2,414 metres) at Ascot Racecourse during the Royal Ascot meeting in June.
It was first run in 1919 and originally the race was contested by three and four-year-old fillies over a distance of 1 mile. It was named after Thomas Lister, 4th Baron Ribblesdale, who was Master of the Buckhounds between 1892 and 1895.
The race is often contested by fillies which ran in the Epsom Oaks two weeks earlier, and some runners will often be seen next in the Irish Oaks in July.
