He served Britain faithfully on D-Day as the first British paratrooper off the plane, and in the incident reenacted in his movie Italic textThe Longest DayItalic text, he made contact with a British Major in the incident at Pegasus Bridge.
If that doesn't warrant a knighthood, I don't know what does.
Actor Michael Cain, a Korean War veteran, has a knighthood, as the does the raucous
Mick Jagger, who never served in a war(although he survived the Blitz in infancy).
I think not giving Mr. Todd a knighthood is an egregious oversight. I once heard of a TV producer who portrayed the Queen in a favorable light being knighted on the spot.
Mr. Todd turned 87 this past June 11, 2006. He ought to be given the full honors of his country while there's still time.
