[edit] Welcome

Hello, Richhoncho, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! [edit] REF Tag

Hello, I saw that you marked the article I created for Maajed Siddiqui as unreferenced. What thing in particular did you disagree on? I am a old student of Prof. Maajed Siddiqui and know him personally. Please let me know what information I need to provide to remove the unreferenced tag.

Regards,

Naqsh-e-Faryadi

[edit] User talk:Road Wizard/Sandbox

Thank you for commenting on the draft page in my sandbox. Unfortunately I have already created the new page, so your comment is now in the wrong place. Could you please add it to the new article at Statutory Instruments of the United Kingdom, planning law? Thanks. Road Wizard 22:49, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nosher

Hi, I noticed you changed the number of professional fights in the article, I thought I'd quoted the biography on that one, maybe I was wrong or the book was, can you point me to where your information on that one is? Thanks --Alf melmac 11:55, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Taken from http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=37597 I assumed the 78 included non-professional fights. I also note ALi is not listed. If I am wrong please change back. --Richhoncho 12:04, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

I honestly have no idea whether it did or not though I'll check his biography again when I get home from work today. Thanks for the link, I'll leave it as is for the moment and edit it if the book says different. It may also be the case that as in his film career, he got billed differently at different times, his boxing might be the same. Thanks. --Alf melmac 12:11, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

I have responded to your query there. — Estarriol talk 10:13, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eccentricity

I noticed your work on disambiguating "eccentricity" when you edited Ibn al-Shatir. In the context of history of astronomy, "eccentric" has a specialized meaning that is not covered by the entry Eccentricity (orbit). Unfortunately, at this time Wikipedia does not have an article that is suitable, nor would it be appropriate to add the meaning to the entry on the current astronomical usage. At this point in time, it is probably better not to disambiguate "eccentric" in articles on the history of astronomy up to the early 1700s. Any work you do will have to be redone later, I'm afraid. If you have questions or comments, you can reply to me here or on my talk page. Maestlin 22:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Christmas Pies

Thanks for your note. I split this off from Christmas Pie as that page had been essentially about two different topics. Having that article (primarily about the village) cluttering up the drama categories was distasteful to me.

I can't vouch for it... but somebody seems to have distinguished it as a variety of Panto. I'm not shocked that Google doesn't know about it in any case, since it does not yet index all human knowledge, and the topic is blindingly obscure (if not false, as one might suspect). So I cannot vouch for it, but it doesn't smell too suspect to me. Perhaps User:Epugh could answer this better, since he originally added the article Christmas Pie with this information. Cheers, Cleduc 16:17, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Odd stubbing

Hi - I notice you've been stubbing articles in an odd way. Stub templates don't work with piping, since if we simply piped one template, that template would be on over quarter of a million articles, causing severe server-strain. Where you've been adding {{stub}}, you should be adding {{India-struct-stub}}. There's a full (very full) list of all the stub templates at WP:WSS/ST (don't worry - no-one knows them all, butust knowing one or two of the big ones, like geo-stub, struct-stub and bio-stub, helps a lot). Thanks for the cleanup work! Grutness...wha? 00:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Nah, there's nothing that you're doing badly wrong, it's just that using the piping isn't going to work, so {{stub}} won't do anything that {{stub}} doesn't already do. I was just commenting to save you some work - it seems to be a waste of your enery to add the extra characters if they're not doing anything that the plain stub does. If you just want to leave it as a plain stub that's fine, too, since it'll be tidied up soon enough. BTW, if you're interested in helping with stubs there's a big and active WikiProject at WP:WSS who'd be happy to see you! :) Grutness...wha? 04:49, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Daniel Henry Deniehy

Hi, I notice you tagged Daniel Henry Deniehy for speedy deletion. A couple of observations, if I may. First you used {{db|notability}} as the tag. Its much better to use the specific CSD tags rather than the generic db tag. These give standard, descriptive messages. In this case the {{db-bio}} tag would have been appropriate.

More seriously, I have to disagree that this article is a candidate for speedy deletion. The CSD criteria A7 ("does not assert notability") is very specifically for articles that do not assert the notability of the subject. This article clearly states that Deniehy "was a prominent figure in Australian journalism and politics". This is an assertion of notability. Therefore the article should not have been tagged for CSD. I've removed your CSD notice and replaced it with some tags inviting the author to expand and source the article.

Thanks, Gwernol 12:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I just counted, and it´s 15 for keep and 11 for delete SO FAR... So get ready with the scissors and (wait for it.... wait for it... wait for the final count) to get snipping! andreasegde 16:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Never mind, I still think they will keep it, because we both know how hard it is to get any kind of concensus, no? (Ouch!) John Lennon has a trivia page, so who´s to know? As for me; I feel as if I´ve just been rescued from an avalanche by a St. Bernard, and I intend drinking a lot of whatever is in that barrel around its neck. Have fun. andreasegde 16:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion

I noticed that you tagged the page The Mad Man Series for speedy deletion with the reason "not available in stores suggests nn". However, "not available in stores suggests nn" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can use WP:PROD if you still want the article to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 22:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Beatles project

I obviously have seen you on the discussion page regarding the nomination for deletion of The Beatles trivia. You seem to be interested in The Beatles, editing the trivia article after the "no concensus" result, so I was wondering if you fancied joining The Beatles Project? If you fancy looking around The Project you can use the template found at the beginning of the talk page. No problems if you don't want to join. ps. Now that the nom is over, any and all of the edits you made earlier are fine by me (as if that should mean anything!) Cheers.LessHeard vanU 13:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for responding. There has been some lively debate within the Project at times, but we all pretty much respect other peoples right to opinion on the basis that we all care for the subject matter. If there is anything you feel you can add (and substantiate) to an article you can always try broaching it on a talk page - that should allow you to gauge how it may be received in the article. As for the Project, that is fine and it is likely to still be around should you ever change your mind.LessHeard vanU 21:32, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Ah, the "Royalties" discussion. That was a bit technical for me (and I used to go over contracts for a living) but I thought it was fairly friendly. I read that The Beatles publishing deals were very good for the time, but didn't know enough to make my own comments. Still, if you have knowledge and care to add it into the mix then feel free to do so (you are as likely to find as many backers as critics).LessHeard vanU 22:44, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I was only joking about the hair shirt... But this brings me to a good point. It´s true, we all make mistakes (like putting in a bullet-point when 2 or 3 colons for an answer would suffice, Honcho-baby - laugh...) but it´s how we talk to each other when something goes awry. The reason I like contributing to The Fabs is because we can all have a joke about it in the end, and that makes life worth living, don´t you think?
You should come on in, and join us. You are a good editor, and you spot stuff that passes most of us by. Don´t let publishing contracts put you off; they´re only handcuffs on paper anyway... (POV - ouch!) C´mon in and be the "115th Beatle". andreasegde 17:06, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Mad Man Series

As you have worked on this article I thought you might like to know I have listed it AfD. BTW I don't understand how you can change a quote. It's either a quote (with or without correct grammar) or it's not. --Richhoncho 11:48, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Richhoncho,

Do you think "Brent" would want the original quote to be in if he knew it to be wrong? Go on, ask him. Also: Do you think a page with that kind of grammar would escape the gaze of a steely-eyed wiki-man like yourself? :) (BTW, did you AfD it because of my correction?) Have fun. andreasegde 12:07, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

You´ll like this Richhoncho,

Did you look at the history section of The Mad Man series? A certain "Brent65" contributed lots to it. I wonder who that is? (Doh!) Not only did he write the article (POV, of course) but he quoted himself , and did it badly. I think your AfD is a job well done. (I put a "delete" in as well, even though I corrected the quote - Doh!) Time to get the hair shirt out again.... :) andreasegde 16:46, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Should Wiki be in British English (as I have read) or American when it deals with American subjects?

I have been told: (American president, American history. We use American spelling. Put your fibres in Churchill articles) Pertaining to the different spelling of "fibres" (GB) and "fibers" (USA).

Is this right? andreasegde 18:36, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Starfire Assistant Article

It has come to my attention that you had flagged the Wiki article for Starfire Assistant as noncomforming with the Non-Notable and the Vain policies. I dont know who took out the flag, as you do apparently feel that it is a bit... how shall I say, wrongish. I agree that it might fall under 'Vain', and would propose removing the instructions on how to use and update (As that is located on SA's site itself, and isn't needed here), but non-notable... Of the two versions of Starfire in use, SA is the only assistant software that handles anything but ship creation for 3rd Edition, something that I think makes it notable enough to at least mention with a link, but because it is 3rd party (and due to politics between the owner of Starfire, Marvin Lamb, and the creater of SA, Steve Walmsley), I don't think it belongs on the Starfire main page...

I'll create the talk section on the Starfire Assistant article, so that we may continue the discussions from there. As soon as I find it, I'll also add the 'cleanup' tag.

[edit] Dick James

"massive income derived" suggests something else...!!!) Your words. What does it suggest?

I definitely did not write "derived". I wrote, "The massive income from". I have no idea what you are saying. This is perturbing. Are you saying that Dick James earned very little money from The Beatles? This is very confusing. Can you explain? andreasegde 19:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

This is getting silly.

"You have no details regarding the actual income of Dick James." Of course I don´t - read the Elton John page about his financial problems with James. Nobody really knows. Do you know? Please give details.

"Dick James didn't work for his money, which would be untrue." As the boss of his company, I would be interested to know (citation needed) how much he did work.

My point was that James earned enough money to set up his own recording company, and then he was able to sign Elton John, who later worked with Lennon.

Please remove "massive" yourself, and put in a citation. That´s why we are here, is it not? Hit those keys, Richhoncho.

P.S. No, I would never "berate The Beatles" for earning money.

P.P.S. I do not wish this to become a personal issue, so I wish you the best. Have fun. andreasegde 20:08, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

"spot a load of old tosh"...

Why are you so angry? Calm down. Remove the word "massive" if you want. I won´t complain. Replace it with:

barn door, big, blimp, bulky, colossal, cracking, cumbersome, cumbrous, elephantine, enormous, extensive, gargantuan, gigantic, grand, great, gross, heavy, hefty, huge, hulking, humongous, immense, imposing, impressive, mammoth, mighty, monster, monumental, mountainous, mungo, ponderous, prodigious, solid, stately, substantial, titanic, towering, tremendous, unwieldy, vast, walloping, weighty, whopper, whopping... (I don´t mind.) Goodnight... andreasegde 20:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

P.S. See these: There was a debilitating court fight against his original song publisher, Dick James Music. [1], [2], [3], and this - [4]. andreasegde 15:18, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply.

We have both agreed to disagree about the music publishing business, but I totally agree with you about the point that musicians "never do royalty audits, and then scream they have been "ripped off." But they trust people too much... (All you need is love.) Have fun. andreasegde 19:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

No, they are not all equal. Rupert Merton - from the Thompson Twins - was an extremely affable, very fair, and honest publisher, as I have read. I am sure there are lots more. I have nothing against publishers, but I do have something against musicians (we´re agreeing about this now) who don´t read contracts properly. Maybe we should be talking about their lawyers, and advisors, and not about anyone else... I wish you the best. andreasegde 19:48, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Long Beach Blues Festival

Thank you.

The article was on my too-long list of articles on the Wikipedia that need fixing, but your prod was the cattle prod to get me to rewrite it from crappy substub to barely adequate stub. Unfortunately, there's not much online unless you start digging through blogs and stuff.

Even though I live in the Long Beach area and regularly listen to KKJZ (and especially their "Nothing but the Blues" program on the weekends) I've never been to the festival. The one that I really wished that I'd gone to was last year's with Los Lobos, who don't do that much live performing anymore.

I keep finding crap on the Wikipedia that needs correcting, like the Artesia, California article, where someone had made the assumption that because they had a "Little India" collection of shops, they also had a large population of Asian-Indians in the city. So I ended up spending a couple of hours correcting and expanding the article. BlankVerse 21:49, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

No, I wasn't suggesting you had made such an assumption. I was just venting about the Wikipedia in general, and giving an excuse for why the Long Beach Blues Festival article had sat on my Todo list too long.
My view of the Wikipedia has taken a decidedly pessimistic turn as of late. In theory, articles on the Wikipedia are supposed to be the accumulation of improvements, both big and small. Instead, what I often find are editors adding things that they think are correct, rather than what they have verified as correct (witness the glaring Artesia, California error), or I find articles that are the accretion of disorganized facts and factoids (see the before and after from my copyediting of the Marineland of the Pacific article.
It isn't the vandals or POV warriors who are responsible for most of the crap on the Wikipedia, it is lazy editors. </soapbox mode> BlankVerse 03:46, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nabih Youssef

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Nabih Youssef, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Nabih Youssef. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] Reverting edits to Haslington

I notice you've been reverting edits to Haslington which purport to add a famous resident. The famous resident was originally added by User:Oli120792, and it may well be himself. Unfortunately, the user immediately reverted the edit, and so you have been busy re-reverting his edits, which has merely put his original edit, worthy of reversion, back in again. I have also done this on one occasion but have got accused of treating User:Oli120792 unfairly by himself. I've tried to revert everything back to the version prior to all this happening, and I hope we can be more vigilant to this kind of thing in future.  DDStretch  (talk) 21:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

You are consistently reverting the second sentence of this article back to "He is not one of the most important figures in the history of Western philosophy and of the Scottish Enlightenment."
