Ripon City Magnets A.F.C

Ripon City Magnets A.F.C. are a semi-professional football team from Ripon, North Yorkshire. They play in the West Yorkshire Football League as of 2006/2007. At the start of the club Ripon played at the Cricket Club ground. Then in 1918 the club began holding official meetings and formed in 1919, they then moved to their home ground Mallorie Park which they still play. In 1920, the first stand was made and is still in use today. The club almost folded in 1935 with the club worried about the commitment and gate figures at the club, fortunes did increase by the mid 1940s they were back on track and much improved. In May 1962, the club decided to buy their ground which they did successfully. In 1977, the club applied to build a new clubhouse and player changing rooms, Harrogate council approved these plans and the clubhouse and changing rooms were built. In May 2006, the club was awarded The FA Charter Standard which will enable the club to strive for a higher standard of football in the future.
