Rob Hodge is an ground breaking talented rapper from Philadelphia Pa. who was signed to major record label Sony/BMG.
Biography (taken from myspace page)-
A native of Philadelphia, Rob Hodge constantly draws musical and lyrical inspiration from the streets around him. He, at once, relates the raw grit of the hood, while effortlessly blending in the studio polish of a seasoned emcee. His words are poetic. His voice is unforgettable. He has the incredible sound of a platinum artist. He also has the same powerful mainstream appeal as a 50 cent, Nas, Jay-z and Tupac Shakur. Relentlessly driven by his passion for hip-hop, Rob is consistently developing and honing his craft until it reaches the point of perfection. That point may have just been reached with Born King, Rob's latest project and his debut with Sony/BMG/Beatmart. In line with Rob's personality, Born King is possibly one of the biggest debuts in the history of hip-hop, checking in at a monster twenty-seven tracks. Try and beat that. It's no coincidence that Born King opens with "Revolution," inviting the listener to "Relax, 'cause we gonna change your world / Hold tight, 'cause we gonna change the world / Prepare for the revolution." A revolution is on its way, but how did it begin? For Rob Hodge, the revolution began as he grew up on the concrete playgrounds of North Philadelphia. Starting in middle school, his passion for hip-hop grew and matured. As a driven and focused individual, Rob and his crew studied hard until they were fluent in the elements of hip-hop, from emceeing to break dancing. When he reached high school, Rob continued to develop his potential through a variety of ways, including performing at local talent shows and appearing in TV commercials. It wasn't long until he became well known among local Philadelphia artists, and eventually began sharing the stage with nationally known artists. Rob was even present during key moments in hip-hop history. "I was up there at Colombia records when Wyclef and the Fugees got their jump off," says Rob, describing some of his experiences. "I was in the room looking at the rough edits for Nas's debut video 'Halftime' at Colombia records with Wyclef and Pras and all them dudes." But Rob Hodge didn't just stop there. In 1994 he turned his art over to God, ready for the next level in his career. He wasted no time in connecting with fellow emcees Da' T.R.U.T.H. and T-wyse, collaborating with them to form a super-group they called The Salvation Army. "It was a good experience for me and a great stepping stone into my life ," shares Rob. "Since then I've been in the streets and been through a lot of heartaches and pain which has caused me to grow as a man and and artist for God even more. I feel like I'm really getting a lot of momentum now. God took me through my Egypt and the world has no idea what's in store for them. I've paid some dues, fam." As an emcee and producer who constantly has a project in the kitchen, Rob Hodge has released numerous mixtapes over the years. This consistent commitment to hip-hop soon lead to inquiries from major record labels. But when Beatmart Recordings stepped up to the plate, Rob knew that something was different about their mission. After a successful appearance on the first Beatmart Best of The Submisisons Vol. 1 mixtape with "Survive," Rob was invited to join the Beatmart Recordings team, an invitation he readily accepted. "Beatmart is giving me the perfect stage to birth the gift that has been planted in me," Rob shares. "With Todd's credentials and background, plus Provident and Sony/BMG's distribution, we are set up to win and take this genre over the top into the mainstream." After over a year of recording, preparation, and planning, Rob Hodge has brought us Born King, a twenty-seven track monster album packed to the limit with hip-hop gems of all types. Everything from trunk bangers to street ballads all come together to make an appearance on this record, and Rob is sure to bring a style for any listener. "I've never heard a album like Born King," explains Rob. "It's real hip-hop, something that can placed in the general market and still possibly explode. That's a brash statement, so does the album hold its weight? From the opening notes of "Revolution" to the final chorus of "I'm Ready," Rob Hodge is guaranteed to keep your attention. Born King is crafted with the attention of every track being a standout track. Forget album filler, because Rob pours his heart into every line, every verse, and every hook. When the album comes to a close, you will be equipped with a portrait of Rob, his soul, and his mission for hip-hop. "Born King is like a movie to me," relates Rob. "It's like something Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino could have directed; every song is fire. I can't pick a favorite. I love every last one, and they all stand out because they all have a different meaning." When you give Born King a spin, it will be hard not to be impressed by Rob's music. Take the song "I'm Rich," for example. Over a thunderous club track, Rob spits his lyrical gymnastics, proudly asserting the fact that he's spiritually rich. The song instantly reaches both the party and the streets and seamlessly brings them both together. Another perfect example of Rob's art form is "Hurricane," showing us Rob at his most aggressive delivery. With a pounding beat and a driving hook, Rob takes his listeners on a musical ride, not stopping until he gets you to throw up your hands and give him room. "The album is edgy, raw, energetic, gripping, and hopefully powerful to the people that hear it," describes Rob. "It?s my desire that the presentation of hip-hop will never be viewed the same again. From the hood to the woods we hold it down on this album. In my mind, it's a great record and introduction to me in the music industry." But Rob Hodge doesn't stop there. He recently started his own production company and is already set to create major ripples in the industry. Throughout his career as an emcee and a producer, Rob has worked with a number of hip-hop notables. Some of the artists he has worked with in the studio include platinum and best-selling acts such as The Fugees, Wu Tang Clan, Digable Planets, Wycelf Jean, The Roots, Japhia Life, Pettidee, and The Cross Movement. Besides doing music on a national level, Rob also manages to maintain a presence in the local Philadelphia music scene. So how do you truly represent an artist like Rob Hodge? We'll let Rob speak for himself on this one. "I feel as though I am a potential ground-breaking artist and not your traditional hip-hop artist," Rob shares. "Born King is a great way to introduce myself to the industry. The world better hold they socks and get ready. It?s coming!" Now with his much anticipated debut album dropping on Beatmart/SonyBMG April 18, 2006 , Rob Hodge will be listed as one of the greats in this industry and a pioneer in bringing forth a format of hip hop the world has never seen nor heard.
