[edit] Biography
His first role seems to be in the 1975 movie Dog Day Afternoon playing a cop, although that was an uncredited part. This was followed by a role as Paint Store customer in 1977 film Saturday Night Fever.
Throughout the 1980s he made numerous guest appearances in hit shows such as Police Squad, Who's the Boss, The Fall Guy, Street Hawk, Family Ties and Cagney & Lacey with major recurring roles in Hill Street Blues as Lester Franco, LA Law as Vinnie La Rosa and St. Elsewhere as Mr. Broadwater.
It was in the 1990s however, when Robert had some of his biggest successes, starting with the key role of Harry, Doug's best friend in 1990 action movie Total Recall. Other movie roles in Die Hard 2, Dick Tracy and City Slickers followed as did a recurring part in NYPD Blue as Alfonse Giardella.
One of his most famous parts was his voicing of the shady cop Harvey Bullock in the popular Batman: the Animated Series adventure, and on two occasions he played Friends character Joey Tribbiani's dad Joseph Tribbiani Sr. in the Season One episode "The One With the Boobies" from 1995 and in the Season Two episode of Friends-spin off Joey "Joey and the Dad" in 2006 (co-starring his Canadian homonym Paulo Costanzo).
