Robert Nathan Mathis (born February 26, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American football defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. He attended Alabama A&M University, where became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
His rookie season he played in all 16 regular season games and recorded 20 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, a fumble recovered and a pass deflected. His second NFL season he improved his numbers to 36 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and 3 recoveries, again playing all 16 games. In his third season in the NFL he had a streak of 8 consecutive games with at least one sack. He only played in 13 games due to injuries but he once again improved his numbers to 54 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 8 forced fumbles and a pass deflected, playing along side Dwight Freeney.
