Robert Merwald

Robert Merwald (born 1971 in Munich) is a German Bariton.
Robert began singing as a boy soprano with the Regensburger Domspatzen. From 1994 he studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and attended masterclasses with Kurt Moll and Irwin Gage. As member of the Opernschule he performed at the Prinzregententheater and the Akademietheater with, among other, parts in works by Mozart, Nicolai and Henze. In 1998 he obtained a grant of the Deutsche Bühnenvereins, and in the following year he won the Meistersänger-Wettbewerb in Nürnberg. Since the season of 1999/2000 he had been engaged at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, where his roles have included the Father in „Hänsel und Gretel“, Daniello in Krenek’s „Jonny spielt auf“, Silvano in „Masked Ball“, Papageno in “The Magic Flute“ und Albert in „Werther“. With this role he was also a guest at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, before taking on the role of the king in the Ludwig Musical. In July 2001 he took part in the Woche des Lieds in Fribourg (Switzerland) with Hugo Wolf’s „Italienisches Liederbuch“.
