From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Watson (February 28, 1923 – December 14, 2004) was born in Martinez, California. He is known for creating paintings with mysterious landscapes occupied by solitary figures amidst ancient buildings, calm deserts and expanding oceans. Watson also provided the cover art for Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, 2nd edition, printed in 1953. This is probably his best known work.
On May 17, 1997, Watson had a 50 year retrospective show at the Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco, California. That day was proclaimed to be "Robert Watson Day" by Mayor Willie Brown.
Watson's works can be found in galleries around the world and are owned by celebrities and dignitaries like Burt Reynolds, Vincent Price, and The Duchess of Windsor.
