"Roger 'n' Me" is an episode of the animated series American Dad!
[edit] Plot
Stan goes to Atlantic City for a bachelor party of an old college friend, and Roger follows in his suitcase. Stan's friend actually did not want Stan to come, leaving Stan and Roger to spend time together. After sneaking into the hotel's hot tub, a drunk Stan agrees to a sex-like probing ritual performed by best friends on Roger's planet to share memories.
Embarrassed, Stan refuses to bring up the event and hides it from Francine, much to Roger's dismay. Stan accidentally runs Francine over while arguing with Roger in the car, and she can only be saved by a $178,000 operation. With Roger knowing all of Stan's secrets, the two compete on Best Buddiez!, a game show to win $200,000, but they lose because Stan knows nothing about Roger (the probing only gave memories to Roger because he was the only alien). Instead, Roger simply probes the doctor in order to learn how to do the operation himself.
Meanwhile, Hayley and Steve plot to break up a good-looking couple, with disastrous results.
[edit] Cultural references
- Best Buddiez!, the game show featured in this episode, is a parody of The Newlywed Game.
- The episode title is based on the 1989 Michael Moore documentary Roger & Me.
- The song played during the montage where Stan and Roger get drunk and have fun is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.
- Roger wears an Italian Stallion t-shirt in Atlantic City.
- "George C. Scott Park", the park where Hayley and Steve scheme to cause Miles and Trudy to meet, could be a play on Francis Scott Key Park, adjacent to the northern (D.C.) end of Francis Scott Key Bridge (Washington), which is found in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and is less than a quarter mile from Georgetown University, where Miles is a student.
- When Roger probes Stan,Stan sings The Star Spangled Banner.
[edit] Notes
- Wendie Jo Sperber recorded her guest appearance (she played herself opposite Bosom Buddies co-star Peter Scolari) just before her death in 2005.
- Barb Hansen re-appears in this episode after the episode "Threat Levels" without hands after stealing a fellow inmate's napkin at Guantanamo Bay.
- Francine gives Stan a pamphlet on Full-Blown AIDS before he leaves for Atlantic City. The phrase "Full-Blown AIDS" was once used in an episode of Family Guy. (Family Guy and American Dad! are both created by Seth MacFarlane.)
- This is one of the many episodes in the series where Roger's sexual & gender identity is often seen as being very fluid.
