From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rokusho Shrine (六所神社 rokusho jinja?) is a Shinto shrine in Myodaiji-cho of Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture.
Since Tokugawa Ieyasu (then under his childhood name Matsudaira Takechiyo) received his consecration in the shrine, it was especially supported by the Tokugawa shogunate. The buildings were renovated on the orders of Ieyasus grandson, Tokugawa Iemitsu, on his visit to Okazaki on the way to Kyoto in 1634.
The two-storey Gongen style gate was commissioned by Iemitsu's son and successor, Tokugawa Ietsuna. Both the Main Hall and Hall of Worship are protected as national important cultural properties. Until the Meiji Restoration, only daimyo with an income exceeding 50,000 koku were allowed to climb the stone steps leading up to the shrine.
Today the shrine is enjoys a popularity with women praying for an easy childbirth.
