Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton is a Roman Catholic archdiocese that includes the Province of Alberta and includes the suffragan dioceses of Calgary and Saint Paul in Alberta. On Thursday, March 22, 2007, Vatican Information Service announced that a Halifax native, Bishop Richard William Smith of the Diocese of Pembroke, Canada, had been appointed as Archbishop-elect of Edmonton by Pope Benedict XVI.
As of 2004, the archdiocese contains 140 parishes, 79 active diocesan priests, 90 religious priests, and 340,000 Catholics. It also has 376 Women Religious, 111 Religious Brothers, and 1 permanent deacon.
