Roman Magistrates

In Ancient Roman Society Magistrates were the people who controlled the building of roads,temples etc. The also tried to keep order in the poorer sections of a town. An example of a magistrtae is a Quaestor, he tresuer of a town. Every town or city had magistrate. Magistrtaes, although they could be Patricians or Plebeians (Plebeians were the ordinary citizens of Roman socity and the Patricians were the rich citizens), were usually Patricians because the patricians had slaves and servants to do their housework and to till their land so the Patricians could spend more time on politics. The Plebeians didn't have this luxury and were seldom magistrates.
