José Vítor Roque Júnior (born August 31, 1976) is a Brazilian footballer who was part of the 2002 World Cup winning team.
Roque Júnior grew up in São José dos Campos, SP. He is widely known as a fearsome defender; he is a tough tackler and a quick thinker. These attributes are matched by his lack of pace and frequent poor timing of tackles. In fact, he was booked by the referee Collina in the fifth minute of the 2002 World Cup final against Germany for blocking Oliver Neuville as Germany attacked.
He has played for São José, Palmeiras, A.C. Milan, Leeds United F.C., A.C. Siena and Bayer Leverkusen. His greatest success in club football came with playing for A.C. Milan, with whom he won the 2003 UEFA Champions League. Although successful on the international stage for Brazil, he did not make it on the Brazilian roster for the 2006 FIFA World Cup due to injury. He is devoted to helping São José Esporte Clube's youth players with a project called "Projeto Primeira Camisa" in english "Project First Jersey".
