Round Table Pizza
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Round Table Pizza is a large chain of pizza parlours in the western United States. The company was founded in 1959 by William R. Larson, Sr. (January 30, 1933[citation needed] – November 15, 2006[1]).[2][3] The company opened its first restaurant in Menlo Park, California.[4] Larson sold his restaurants to a group of investors in 1979.[1] Round Table now has more than 500 franchised and company-owned locations.[4] The company's name originally referred to a place for people to gather, not the King Arthur legend.[2] But in 1961 a friend of Mr. Larson's drew some sketches of members of King Arthur's court eating pizza, and Mr. Larson then adopted the King Arthur theme for his restaurants.[2] The three shields in the official logo were added in 1970, and are intended to symbolize the letters "F-U-N".[2] The company's headquarters are located in Concord, California, at 1320 Willow Pass Road.[5]
Round Table Pizza's official mascots are, as of 2006, Matt and Marcus, who both appear on the company's television commercials.[6][7]
