Rowlett High School was opened in the fall of 1996 under the leadership of Dr. Marlene Hammerle (then Carter). RHS is the second newest high school in the Garland Independent School District and is accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The school is currently designated as acceptable by TEA. Rowlett High School operates under the trimester system. Students attend three twelve-week terms during the school year. Students may earn up to 7 1/2 credits per year. Rowlett has an award winning band than has gone to state competition consistently since 2002.

Rowlett High School course offerings include college preparatory, regular, and career and technology courses. Advanced Placement courses are offered in Computer Science, English (language and literature), French, German, Spanish, Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, US History, US Government, Economics, and Psychology.

Rowlett High School will prepare students to lead a successful life. The students will leave Rowlett High School with a solid foundation in academics, citizenship, service and character development.

Garland ISD has a free choice system, which allows a child in the district to attend any school within the district his or her parent(s) wish(es)him or her to attend.
Many kids attending Back, Dorsey, Giddens-Steadham, Herfurth, Keeley, Pearson, and Rowlett Elementary Schools later go to Rowlett High School.
Many students enrolled at Coyle or Schrade Middle Schools later go to Rowlett High School.
