Royal Central College

Royal Central College is the largest school in Polonnaruwa. Started in 1954 by Minister C.P de Silva, under the “madya maha vidyala” act. This was the leading educational institution at that time in Polonnaruwa but later, in 1971 the school was used as a prison and the properties the school were deteriorated at that time. The school regained it's glory and became the most successful school in the district. It has contributed in providing many distinguish people to Sri Lanka. One of the top ministers in the Sri Lankan governemwnt Hon. Minister Maithreepala Sirisena, and most recently Chinthana Vidanage, gold medalist in 2006 Commonwealth Games are from Royal Central College.
