Royal Rumble 1989 was the second annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling event from the World Wrestling Federation, and the first one to be held on pay-per-view. It took place on January 15, 1989 at The Summit in Houston, Texas.

- Dark match: Jim Powers defeated Barry Horowitz
- Dark match: Sam Houston defeated Steve Lombardi
- Jim Duggan and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Dino Bravo and The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond) (w/Frenchy Martin and Jimmy Hart) in a Two out of three falls match (15:42)
- Jacques pinned Bret after an aided Seated Senton. (4:22)
- Duggan pinned Jacques after an elbow drop. (11:46)
- Bret pinned Bravo after Duggan knocked Bravo out with his 2x4. (15:42)
- Rockin' Robin defeated Judy Martin to retain the WWF Women's Championship (16:24)
- Robin pinned Martin after a flying crossbody from the second rope.
- Sensational Sherri would do commentary for this matchup and challenged the winner of the match.
- The Ultimate Warrior defeated Rick Rude (w/Bobby Heenan) in a posedown
- Warrior won the posedown by winning fan reaction in each of the four categories: "Double Biceps," "Best Abs," "Most Muscular," and "Medley of Poses." However, an irate Rude would attack Warrior with his own metal workout bar.
- King Haku (w/Bobby Heenan) defeated Harley Race (9:01)
- Haku pinned Race.
- Big John Studd won the 1989 Royal Rumble (1:04:53)
- The final two were Big John Studd and Ted DiBiase.

- In kayfabe "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase did not like the number that he drew and therefore consulted with Slick (who managed the Big Boss Man and Akeem) to arrange for the purchase of #30.
