Rubus niveus Thunb. |
Rubus niveus, also known as Mysore Raspberry or Hill Raspberry (in Hawaii) is a member of the rose family, and is closely related to the two black raspberry species Rubus leucodermis and Rubus occidentalis. Native to India, it is one of the few members of genus Rubus which are adapted to tropical climates. The fruits are medium-sized and red, becoming dark purple or blue when ripe, with a flavor similar to the black raspberry and whitebark raspberry, which are native to eastern and western North America, respectively. It is the only raspberry which is grown successfully in Hawaii. It is an invasive species in the Galápagos Islands, mainly because of its ability to spread rapidly.
