Russ Johnson

William Russel Johnson, better known as Russ Johnson, is a Minor League Baseball utility infielder for the Colorado Rockies. He was born on February 22, 1973 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He went to Louisiana State University and was drafted in the first round of the 1994 amateur draft by the Houston Astros. In 1997, he began play with the Astros, which lasted until 2000, when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He played for Tampa until 2003, and he was traded to the New York Mets, where he played in their farm system. In 2004, Johnson played in the Chicago Cubs farm system, where he occasionally pitched. In 2005, he became an infielder for the New York Yankees, and he spent the year coming in off the bench as a first baseman, third baseman, pinch hitter, designated hitter, or outfielder. In 2006 he played for the Yankees AAA farm team, and led the International League in walk percentage (14.8%).[1]
