Rutshuru, sometimes called Rushuru, is a town in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, lying near the Rwandan and Ugandan borders. During the colonial period, it lay in Rwanda until 1910.
It is a transport hub known for the Rutshuru Falls and the nearby Mayi Ya Moto hot springs and Virunga National Park.
The town saw fierce fighting in 1990 and was a centre for recruitment to Rassemblement Démocratique pour le Rwanda following the Rwandan Genocide.
