Ryan Michael Madson (b. August 28, 1980, in Long Beach, California) is a Major League Baseball pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies.

[edit] Biography
Ryan graduated from Valley View High School (Riverside County) with a 3.5 GPA in 1998. His uncle, Steve Barr, was in Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers systems from 1969-1975. He was drafted by Philadelphia Phillies in 9th round (254th overall) of 1998 amateur entry draft, the same year as fellow teammates Pat Burrell and Geoff Geary.

Highly regarded by the Phillies ever since they drafted him, Madson got to the major league level in 2004 and quickly established himself as a reliable relief pitcher. In 2005, he started out well but appeared to wear down late in the season, finishing with a 4.14 earned run average in 87 innings. The Phillies have high hopes for him in 2006, converting him back into a starter, the position he had played for his entire minor league career. He has since been converted back to a reliever yet again, to make room in the starting rotation for rookie Cole Hamels.
