Ryan Townsend (born 2 September 1985, Manchester , United Kingdom) is an Australian football (soccer) player, who last played as a central defender for the Perth Glory in the A-League before being released. He is currently trialing for Indonesia club Persiba Balikpapan.[1]
Ryan was born in Manchester, in the United Kingdom, but was raised in Perth, Australia. After growing up in Australia he returned to the UK having earned a place in Burnley FC's youth development set-up. Ryan could have stayed at Burnley F.C. but they could not extend his contract due to ECU Joondalup (his club in Perth) demanding a large development fee. Ryan insted returned to Perth where he started to train with Perth Glory before playing two games last year on a short term contract as a replacement, Ryan then signed for wanneroo city in the perth state premier league, before he was offered a full time contract with perth glory for the place vacated by Daniel Vasilevski for the 2006/2007 A-League season but was released four games before the end of the A-League season after only playing one game.

As of February 2006, he has played for the Australian youth side, the "Young Socceroos", three times. A higlight for Ryan was scoring against Japan in the World Youth Championships in 2005.
