S-Works

S-Works is a sub-division of Specialized Bike Co which came about in 1992 and makes up the top of the company's product range. The name is taken from Lockheed Martin's "Skunk Works" division, which is responsible for the research and development of secretive military aircraft in the United States. The S-Works emblem is put on only products which have been tweaked slightly in terms of materials and/or mechanics. For example, the difference between a "Stumpjumper Pro" and the S-Works variant is that the latter is constructed from carbon fibre as apposed to the aluminium alloys the company uses in the models below.
