SJM Institute of technology (SJMIT) was established in the academic year 1980-81, with blessings of then president of SJM Vidyapeetha Sri Mallikarjuna . Located just adjacent to the National Highway-4, SJMIT has a clean green campus with all facilities spread over a vast area of 60 acres.

The college is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, approved by Govt. of Karnataka and affiliated to Visweswaraiah Technological University (VTU) Belgaum. SJMIT is recognized and authorized institute to transfer the technology and courses offered by the joint collaboration of VTU Belgaum and CDAC (Center for the development of Advanced computing) Government of India.
SJMIT provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Civil Engineering. Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Information Science Engineering.
The institute is reinforced with experienced, highly qualified and dedicated faculty in all branches, labs, computer center and Library for the academic development of the students. Other facilities like boys hostel, separate girls Hostel, Play grounds, indoor games, gymnasium, reading rooms, canteen and other student requirements/amenities also exist in the campus. In summary, the campus is a clean, green, healthy, secured, disciplined boundary, best suited for a student to explore his/her higher education.

There are two boy's hostels to accommodate about 600 male students and one separate girl's hostel to accommodate about 200 female students. Girl's hostel is located nearby campus at a distance of 0.25 km from the campus. Only clean hygienic, delicious pure vegetarian food is served in the messes.

Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park of our institution (SJMIT-STEP) is sponsored by the department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka was established in the year 2000. It needs to be developed and supported by various organizations, which are serving our Country to uphold Science and Technology and encourage the budding entrepreneurs with their innovative ideas to become the wealth of our Country.

[edit] IT INCUBATION CENTER
The Information Technology - Incubation Center (IT-IC) was established in the year of 2002-03 at SJMIT campus. Funded by IT-Department, Govt. of Karnataka, SJM Vidyapeetha provided infrastructure for the development of the same.
Sophisticated with Optical fiber cabling network (OFCN), IT-IC provides training to its candidates about the use of OFCN in different manufacturing technology and practical situations. The training is carried out by means of CD presentation etc.
Under the banner of IT-IC, the department has taken up Mahithi Sindhu Program, funded by Govt of Karnataka, which includes the inspection of computers training to students etc in 33 schools of the district and loads of data processing is carried out in IT-IC.
In IT-IC, leased line Internet facility is established with the help of main computer center of our institution which benefits many of the trainees such as Project trainees, EDP-Trainees, PMRY- trainees and others by downloading a large no. of recent project works, software etc. This helps quite a lot in their career development.
