[edit] Prologue
Vanargandr, an ancient beast known as an 'Eternal', which was sealed by the Lunar family long ago is awakened by the Dark Child and Moon Beauty Sabata. The beast attacks Sabata, and after short battle the Dark Boy is defeated by the beast. A new Immortal appears, Ratatosk, who uses his skills as a puppet master to cause Sabata to act against his will and join them in their quest to destroy all life.
[edit] Plot Details
Django, almost killed and sealed in the graveyard by his brother, Sabata, wakes up thanks to the vampire blood in him having prevented his death. Suffering from a small bout of amnesia, he and Otenko try leaving the catacombs, however the exit is closed. Unknown to them, a small boy from the future, Trinity, accidentally helps them, breaking the seal and allowing Django and Otenko to exit.
Once outside, Django and Otenko find a new group of Immortals, lead by Sabata, who has apparently decided to turn against him.
Django returns to San Miguel, where he's given the Casket Motorbike, a machine that allows him to travel from one location to another while fighting undead in the way.
The Solar Boy heads for a small town attacked by the Immortals, he finds the Count of Groundsoaking Blood, revived by Sabata is the one in charge of that place, he defeats him in battle and, like usual, carries the coffin back to the Piledriver in which he purifies him... or so he thinks.
In the next mission, Django has to climb a giant tree, at the top of it is Hresvelgr, the second Immortal, who has captured Trinity and uses him as a bait to lure Django. While keeping Trinity out of harm's way, Django defeats him, he takes the coffin back to the Piledriver and successfully purifies him, however as Django tries toreturn to San Miguel, encounters Trinity, who explains that he comes from the future to change the destiny of the world that's sunk in darkness, and later by the Count.
After an arduous battle, Django seems to be defeated by the Count, but before the Immortal can defeat him, the Solar Tree gives Django a new power. The Solar Boy fuses with Otenko and thanks to these new powers he defeats the Count.
During his adventure on the snow fields, Django comes across the ghost of someone he met a long time ago, the Crying Banshee Carmilla, whose soul was apparently released from Sabata's body. She barely remembers what's happened, but she disappears befoe you know more. At the end of this scenario, Django must fight his own brother, Sabata, he defeats him after a long fight. As you purify Sabata in the Piledriver, Ratatosk comes and rescues Sabata.
During the next dungeon you learn more about Carmilla, she slowly regains her memories as you meet her in the different parts of the dungeon. You defeat Nidhogg at the end of the dungeon, a mechanical creature controlled by a Immortal. Django Piledrives him and he heads back to the place where you fought him. The Solar Boy enters a cannon and is fired into space, landing at the Dark Castle.
After clearing the puzzles in the castle, you reach the area where you fought Sabata in Boktai, Django finds Ratatosk here and as he tries to get rid of him, Trinity appears to save him. The boy is trapped in a Dark Hole, and Ratatosk escapes.
As you go after Ratatosk, you arrive to Hel's throne room, you fight Ratatosk here, the Immortal who was controlling Sabata since the beginning, using the Dark Boy's feelings towards Carmilla as means for him to release Vanargandr. Ratatosk is defeated, and Django must save his brother, he heads for the final area of the game, Paradise, which is located on the moon.
Once in Paradise, Django finds Sabata's soul, he learns more about his brother's attempts to find a way to revive Carmilla, and how he was tricked into this, however, Vanargandr slowly takes control of him, and to save him, you must reach the deepest level of the Moon, where Vanargandr sleeps.
Django finds Carmilla before the last level and after talking, he decides to do all he can to save the world, even if that means losing his brother.
Django fights against Vanargandr (and Sabata), who can use the power of Sol, Luna and Darkness, Django defeats the creature after a long battle. Otenko and Carmilla appear, they decide to seal Vanargandr again using their own souls. As Django rides his bike on his way to the warp panel which will return him to Earth, a loud noise distracts hin from thoughts of his friends and his brother. Vanargandr starts to chase him, Django tries escaping, but thanks to Carmilla and Sabata, Otenko or Sabata is freed from Vanargandr. As they reach the end of the road, Django and Otenko or Sabata combine their powers and finish Vanargandr.
Some parts change depending on some actions during the game, there are four endings for this game:
Worst ending, obtained by using Black Django more than Sol Django and hitting Sabata in the final battle: Otenko isn't released from Vanargandr's body, Black Django finishes Vanargandr and Sabata dies and leaves with Carmilla.
Bad Ending, obtained by using Black Django more thn Sol Django and WITHOUT hitting Sabata in the final battle: Otenko isn't released from Vanargandr's body, Black Django finishes the Eternal creature and Sabata is alive and released from the beast.
Good Ending, obtained by using Sol Django more than Black Django and hitting Sabata in the final battle: Otenko is released and him and Django defeat Vanargandr, Sabata dies and stays with Carmilla.
Best Ending, obtained by using Sol Django more than Black Django and without hitting Sabata in the final battle: Otenko is released and him and Django defeat Vanargandr, Sabata is released from the Eternal beast's body alive and Carmilla stays to watch the seal on the beast.
After the credits, depending on the ending, Django is seen watching the dawn in a snowy mountain, wondering about all the events, if Sabata is alive, he'll free Trinity from the dimensional prison Ratatosk put him in, Django and Sabata sweatdrop as Trinity talks to them, if Otenko is alive, he'll get mad at Trinity and the boy will push him away.
[edit] Gameplay
Boktai 3 has various changes from the previous games, namely on the weapon system:
-You can use the Gun del Sol and you can change the frame and the lenses, some of the frames work replace the grenade system in Boktai.
-Django doesn't have the Sol de Vice anymore, therefore his weapons (excluding the Gun del Sol) can't change elements.
-You can forge weapons with elements like in Boktai 2.
-San Miguel isn't a explorable city like it was in Boktai 2, now is only a map in which you can select different locations (Clock Tower, Bike Shop, Cheyenne's Weapon Shop, Lita's Fruit Shop, Smith's Workshop, Lady's Library, Django's House.)
-The overworld is a map, you select the loaction and you get there, if it is the first time going there, you'll have to go through a bike stage.
-The Casket Motorcycle, which allows for multiplayer minigame races, also premieres in this game. Throughout the dungeons you obtain hidden parts to the bike. You must also ride your bike to a dungeon if it is your first time there. There is a garage where you can customize and run courses to obtain "bike points" and exchange them for a random item, sometimes a bike part or ability.
-There are various bike stages, one for each loaction plus the extra ones you can play in the Bike Shop.
-You can get different parts for your bikes, they can increase speed, power, life and energy.
-Boss Arena makes a return in this game.
[edit] Transformations
Django can transform into two different forms in this game, they can be used only when the Trance gauge is full, and it'll deplete as the transformation is used, the Trance gauge is flled by hitting enemies:
-Black Django: First seen in Boktai 2, Django releases the powers from the vampire blood he has in him, transforming in the Vampire Boy, he regains all his health on this transformation and obtains dark-elemental abilities. He is hurt by water and sunlight.
- Vampire Fang: Allows him to suck the life of his enemies and regain his own, can attack continuously by alternating A and B.
- Dark Ring: Makes Django fly in circles hurting the enemies around him.
- Berserk attack is activated when Django receives too many hits or when he's hit right after transforming, this ability drains his life but causes heavy damage on the other enemies.
-Sol Django: Thanks to the Solar Tree, Django and otenko can fuse, turning into the embodiment of Sol. Sol transformation regains all of Django's ENE, and gives him Sol elemental abilities.
- Sol Strike: Django hits the closest enemy, can attack continuously by alternating A and B.
- Sol Prominence: Django flies in a circle and hits the enemies.
[edit] RockMan.EXE Crossover
The RockMan crossover continues only in the Japanese Version of RockMan.EXE 6 with RockMan.EXE, Colonel.EXE and Blues.EXE making cameo appearances as plushies, various RockMan themed equipment, and a new "Crossover Battle 2" mode where Django can battle RockMan.EXE. This time the opponent is the Count of Groundsoaking Blood (Hakushaku) (where is in RockMan.EXE 5, it was ShadeMan.EXE).
[edit] Trivia
- Gari Gari, a Japanese popsicle chain's mascot, appears in the game due to a promotional deal Konami made with his company.
- In the Japanese promotional commercial, the song MICRO SUNNY was used as the accomplying music. The song is sung by a band called Shounen Kamikaze.
- In Lunar Knights, it is revealed that a man named Trinity is the father of Aaron. Whether or not this is the same Trinity as in Shinbok has yet to be confirmed.
