I'm Safalra. I first became aware of Wikipedia when it started showing up in the referrer logs of my website (http://www.safalra.com). I registered an account on 2nd April 2006.

[edit] Citing sources
The citation of sources ensures that Wikipedia content is verifiable, with no original research. There are several different citation styles in use in Wikipedia, with the guideline that each article should use a single citation style throughout. My personal preference is to use the footnotes system along with citations following the guidelines described in chapters 16 and 17 of The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition), but with dates in the neutral yyyy-mm-dd format. The footnotes system is adequated described elsewhere on Wikipedia; here I will explain the citation style.
[edit] Citing books
The format for citing books is:
author, ''title'' (location: publisher, year), pages(s)
For example:
- Percy Russell, A History Of Torquay (Torquay: Devonshire Press Limited, 1960), 168-169
[edit] Citing webpages
The format for citing webpages is:
author, "title", publisher, URL (accessed yyyy-mm-dd)
For example:
- Paul Rincon, "Jawbone hints at earliest Britons", BBC, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4482679.stm (accessed 2006-11-07)
Many websites do not cite the authors of pages; in this case, I use the domain portion of the URL as the author.
[edit] Citing magazine articles
The format for citing magazine articles is:
author, "title", ''magazine'', issue, page(s)
For example:
- Neil Bothwick, "Just the FAQs", Amiga Format, December 1999 (issue 130), 92
Many magazines do not cite the authors of articles; in this case, I use the title of that section of the magazine as the author.
[edit] Editing milestones
These are all powers of two because I'm a computer scientist.

[edit] Adding IPA pronunciation guides
Many articles lack pronuncation guides, or feature pronunciation guides that are either incorrect or in a non-standard phonetic system. I've added IPA pronunciation guides to the following articles:
Bishopsteignton, Brixham, Dawlish, Exmouth, Devon, Kingsteignton, Lyme Regis, Paignton, River Teign, Starcross, Teignmouth, Torbay, Torquay, Totnes, Uvula, and Vichyssoise

The rarely used Platform One, on the Exmouth branchline, is on the far left, with trees in Northernhay Gardens overhanging. The Exeter Central to Barnstable service is currently stopped at Platform Two. Platform Three is empty as the Exeter St Davids to London Waterloo service has just left. The road bridge is obscured by the footbridge. |
