The Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier is the largest multipurpose venue in Canada, with the most sophisticated technical equipment. It seats 2,982 people and is part of the cultural complex in downtown Montreal, the Place des Arts.
It is the home of the Opéra of Montréal.
Built in 1963, the theatre was initially called the "Grand Theatre" before being named in honor of the famous head of the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Wilfrid Pelletier. It is an adaptable venue for all the kinds of large scale events, such as opera and rock'n'roll concerts, but also including ballet, symphonic concerts, and musicals.
In addition to the Opera de Montreal, the "Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier" accommodates two resident companies: the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Great Canadian Ballet.
