Salt Water Tabby is an animated cartoon short subject, starring Tom and Jerry. It was produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on July 12, 1947 by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer. The cartoon was animated by Ed Barge, Michael Lah (who later went on to direct Droopy cartoons), and Kenneth Muse. Salt Water Tabby was scored by Scott Bradley, produced by Fred Quimby, and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.

The cartoon opens with Tom emerging from a beach house with a long bathing suit and sandals. He gets his suit caught and is just about to dive into the ocean but he snaps back. Tom then runs back out toward the ocean but as the water receds from a wave, a bunch of garbage is shown on the beach. Tom lands on the garbage thinking he is swimming and ends up knocking out cans from his suit. He goes back to the beach where he sees a female cat reading a book and wearing sunglasses. He ends up crashing through a garbage can, and returns to the cat. He ends up eating her hot dog and drinking her soda. As he lies in her lap, a tomato gets thrown and a banana peel lands on him. Tom looks in the picnic basket and sees Jerry eating salami from some sandwiches. Jerry then throws a couple of eggs at Tom and starts chomping on a piece of celery and Tom’s hand. Jerry runs away and Tom ends up getting attacked by a crab near some rocks. Tom chases after Jerry and he traps Tom in a beach umbrella. The crab then tries to pinch Jerry but gets caught in Tom’s bathing suit and pinches Tom again.
Jerry then grabs a bottle of soda and Tom opens it. He then slams the bottlecap on Jerry's head and Jerry uses the crab's claw to free himself. Tom then shares sandwiches with the cat but Jerry sneaks a shell into the sandwich causing Tom to shatter his teeth when he bites into it. Jerry then takes a bucket of sand and replaces the bowl of sugar Tom is using for a cup of coffee. Tom gets a mouthfull of sand and Jerry then fills the bucket with ocean water. He gives the bucket to Tom so he can rinse his mouth, but it's ocean water and Tom causing spits it in the cat's face. Tom catches Jerry in a bucket of sand and he ends up getting buried by Jerry. When Tom emerges he gets hit the face with a shovel. Tom goes to eat a banana but Jerry closes the beach umbrella and gets stuck in the soda bottle. Tom shakes the bottle and shoots Jerry into the ocean. Jerry then grabs seaweed and draws a face on a piece of wood. He makes screams pretending that it’s a drowning victim. Tom to the rescue! But he ends up crashing into the piece of wood. Jerry then grabs an inflatable horse and causes Tom to swallow it sending Tom on a wild ride and out of his bathing suit. Tom flies everywhere on the beach and back into the ocean. Jerry then sails away with the picnic basket using Tom’s bathing suit as a sail accompanied by the tune of Aloha Oe.
