"This tactic -even though not recognaized by the offcial history- allowed San Martin to achieve his conquest trough the Andes. If Gúemes would not have defended the whole area -that exceeded much Salta city and surroundings- the south american revolution would have failed for sure (given that the rest of the continent, by that time, had been reconquested by the spanish). For this, Gúemes place is not to be as one more of the heroic local "caudillos" defending their own hometowns, but his military and political skills and performance had the same importance as San Martin's and Belgrano's. Unfortunately, such role at the south american independence struggle is still waiting for recognition."

[edit] San Felipe de Salta
As per Spanish WP, the topography name of Salta city is San Felipe de Salta. For that reason I added this denomination to the article. The first name of the city was Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de San Felipe de Lerma en el Valle de Salta. Mxcatania 14:03, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Salta's surface
Salta CAN'T have an area of over 1,770 square kilometers, otherwise it would be larger than Buenos Aires!

- You'r right. That was both the population and area of the Salta Department. Fixed Mariano(t/c) 06:59, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Important Cultural Artists
I think a section could be inserted about important musical artists from Salta, namely El Chaqueño Palevecino and Los Nocheros.
[edit] Balcarce Street
Does the article really need to have a section on Balcarce Street? Shouldn't it be included in some broader section, like City Atractions or something like that?
