Samuel Eccleston

Archbishop Samuel Eccleston, P.S.S. (June 27, 1801 - April 22, 1851) was the fifth Roman Catholic archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland from 1834 to 1851.
Archbishop Samuel Eccleston was born in Chestertown, Maryland on June 27, 1801. He converted to Roman Catholicism on May 29, 1819. He was ordained a priest on April 24, 1825. On March 4, 1834, he was appointed the Coadjutor Archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland and the Titular Archbishop of Thermae Basilicae. On September 14, 1834 he was ordained bishop of the Titular Archbishop of Thermae Basilicae. He suceeded James Whitfield as Archbishop of Baltimore on October 19, 1834 as well as being appointed the Apostolic Administrator of Richmond, Virginia on the same date.
Eccleston resigned as Apostolic Administrator of Richmond on November 22, 1840. He died on April 22, 1851 in Baltimore, Maryland.
