[edit] Homeschooling
Sam was showed signs as a young child that he was a gifted learner with an above-average memory. At the age of 3, he was driving in the passenger seat of a car with his mother driving. They passed a sign for a store called "American Rug", with the word "Rug" in particularly big letters. Sam exclaimed, "Look mom! The sign says 'rug'!". By fall of 1994, at only four years of age, Sam was able to read entire books on his own. His mother began educating him to prepare him for primary education. He caught on to everything much faster than she expected. After a mere month or so, he had already learned so much that his parents figured he would be bored out of his mind in a public school, since they would only be teaching him what he already knew. They decided that he should be homeschooled. He has been homeschooled ever since.
Despite having a gift for education, Sam despises doing schoolwork, even though he does feel fortunate to be homeschooled. To this day, he occaisonally falls into a depressed mood because of it.
[edit] Eating and sleeping
Sam is unique in that he has an unusually small appetite. He almost never snacks, and can skip meals easily. Although there are a few foods he enjoys, he does not understand why so many people become addicted to eating. Sometimes his appetite grows so small that it worries his parents. However, it does not seem to have a considerable effect on his health. He is also a picky eater.
Sleeping is something Sam has an unusual problem with. No matter what he tries, he is unable to fall asleep before midnight, unless he is unusually tired. Part of the reason may be because he is a deep thinker with a constantly racing mind. Luckily, since Sam is homeschooled, he can sleep for about 3 hours longer than he would if he attended the average public school.
[edit] Video games
Sam's main hobby has been video games for nearly his whole life. Around the age of 3, when Sam was potty training, he played Super Mario World instead of watching television or movies. He caught on to the game surprisingly fast, and he has been a gamer ever since.
Sam enjoys a very wide variety of games from many different companies, although his favorite video game company has always been Nintendo. He currently owns a NES 2, a Game Boy Color, a Sega Genesis, a Super Nintendo, a Sega Saturn, a PlayStation, a Nintendo 64, a Nintendo 64DD, a Sega Dreamcast, two PlayStation 2s (one American and one Japanese), a Nintendo GameCube, an Xbox, a Nintendo DS Lite, a Wii, and a total of about 400 games. The Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn are his personal favorite consoles; he has over 100 games for those two consoles alone. As a young child, the only console Sam's family owned was a Super Nintendo. He would play other consoles (mostly the Sega Genesis or NES) that his friends or relatives owned quite often, however. Starting at the age of 10, Sam starting collecting consoles and games at a rapid rate, resulting in the collection he has today.
Sam not only plays popular video games, but many cult classics as well, such as Gitaroo Man. He is also an import gamer. He memorized the entire Japanese katakana alphabet in order to help him play Japanese games. Sam ordered his first import game, Shining Force III Scenario 2, in December of 2004. He originally started importing to extend his Sega Saturn library. The Saturn was quite successful in Japan, but due to its low sales in America and Europe, many developers did not translate and release their Saturn games overseas because they feared it would only result in a loss of money. After buying several foreign Saturn games, Sam began importing games from Japan and Europe for many other consoles to extend his collection. Some of his favorite import titles are Radiant Silvergun, Terranigma, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, the Parodius series, and the early games in the Fire Emblem series.
Sam does not have a favorite video game, and does not believe that there is such thing as a "best game ever".
