San José de Ocoa

San José de Ocoa is the capital of San José de Ocoa (province), Dominican Republic. It's a city located on the north side of the Peravia province, which it used to be part of until January 1, 2002. Ocoa was founded early in the colonial times, and many different origins are cited. The original name of the city of San José de Ocoa was El Maniel, which was a haven for runaway slaves in the midst of 18th century.
