San Pablo is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The city of Richmond nearly surrounds the whole city. The population was 30,215 at the 2000 census. The city is home to Contra Costa College as well as Casino San Pablo.

San Pablo is located at 37°57′42″N, 122°20′42″W (37.961623, -122.345093)^GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²), all land.

As of the census^GR2 of 2000, there were 30,215 people, 9,051 households, and 6,489 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,521.7/km² (11,726.9/mi²). There were 9,340 housing units at an average density of 1,397.7/km² (3,625.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 31.62% White, 18.33% Black or African American, 0.90% Native American, 16.37% Asian, 0.51% Pacific Islander, 25.44% from other races, and 6.83% from two or more races. 44.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 9,051 households out of which 44.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% were married couples living together, 19.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.29 and the average family size was 3.87.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,184, and the median income for a family was $42,042. Males had a median income of $31,599 versus $28,140 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,303. About 15.5% of families and 18.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.0% of those under age 18 and 11.5% of those age 65 or over.

There has been a slow and steady rise in gang violence, drug abuse, and overall crime, typical of west Contra Costa County. It is in the East Bay, so it is a major keypoint of the rising Hyphy movement, along with its neighbor, Richmond, Oakland, and Vallejo.
