San Vito Chietino

San Vito Chietino is a commune and town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy San Vito Chietino, better known as the town of Gabriele D'Annunzio, famous poet who lived in the 1900. Also, this small serene touristy town, boasts a rare and unique attraction, "La Costa dei Trabocchi". Trabocchi, are giants wooden platforms built since 1400, in the middle of the sea. They can be seen from the town of Ortona to Fossacesia. Most often people describe them as giant spiders. For local fisherman this was one of the method to fish abundant catch for the residents.
