Sanky-panky

A Sanky-panky, or , is a male sex worker, found in the Dominican Republic. A sanky-panky solicits on beaches and has clients of both sexes. When with men, the Sanky-panky assumes the role of a superior homosexual male, who takes the role of a top, but when with women, assumes the role of an ideal lover.
== While strictly speaking they are not prostitutes, since they do not directly negotiate money for sex, they are more likely to create a pseudo-relationship which can be continued when the guest returns home. They then attempt to ask for money to be sent to them primarily by wire transfer, often using elaborate stories such as "sick relatives". A sankie's ultimate goal is to obtain a marriage visa to the tourist's native country, marry the tourist, then leave for areas of the country with large populations of their countrypersons.
Without being overly pejorative to their clients, the typical sankie/tourist relationship is obvious as the female part of the pair is often older, larger, and less attractive than the younger, physically fit and more handsome sankie. The female half would be unlikely to attract men with similar physical characteristics where they live (often Canada and Europe), while imagining that the relationship exists as more than a monetary/physical one.

Sankies can be promiscuous with bisexual relationships, and are often loath to use condoms. As such, the risk of STD/HIV transmission or Hepatitis B is very high, and regardless of the heat of passion, the client should insist on the use of condoms. This may be resisted by the sankie.

In 2007, the Director José Enrique Pintor tried to bring the essence of this colorful character in his comedy "Sanky Panky"[1]. Produced entirely in the Dominican Republic, the film includes a myraid of actors from Dominican pop-culture. It presents us with the lead character, Genaro, a broke and desperate Dominican who wants to imitate a good friend's fortune of achieving economical freedom by marrying a midlife, but rich, American lady. Genaro ultimately fails his goal, in part due to lack of proper skills, also due to another series of unfortunate situations. Many lessons learned and, in the end, he winds up with a - beautiful - Dominican lady who was following up on Genaro's luck throughout the movie.
