Sanya

Sanya (三亚) is the southernmost city in Hainan province, China and has an estimated population of 485,004 (2006). After Haikou, it is the second most populous city of the island. Sanya is revered for its tropical climate and is a popular tourist destination.

A 108-meter Buddhist statue of Guanyin in Sanya, completed in May 2005, is one of the tallest statues in the world.
Yalong Wan is a 7.5km beach located southeast of Sanya City.

The city is served by Sanya Phoenix International Airport which is called Sanya Fenghuang International Airport. Buses from other parts of the island serve Sanya's bus terminal, and plenty of taxis also serve residents and tourists alike.

- The city has hosted the Miss World contest in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
- The city hosted the World's Strongest Man contest in 2006.
