Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. I am sorry but {{windows-software-screenshot}} is inappropriate for the images from Google Earth. It is my belief that such images are "copyright - all rights reserved". For a second opinion, you could ask at Wikipedia talk:Possibly unfree images. -- RHaworth 16:57, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello - Thanks for the message. One of the not-so-good things (for me) about doing dab link repair is that when I see an article or section that needs a copyedit – big or small – my nature keeps me from moving on until I do the copyedit. What can I say – I'm obsessed with minutia. ;-)

I agree that the Nainital article is too long, and it's redundant in several places. There are lists that should be put into prose, huge quotes from published literary works that may be copyright problems in and of themselves, problems with the style of references, and more. Honestly, I would take the article down to about 1/3 of its current size, especially the long quotes from literature. I was surprised to see that Nainital has only 38,000 people, because many cities twice its size have shorter articles. Not that the population size matters that much, because it doesn't really; the point is that the article can contain most or all of its content in a more concise style.

At any rate, I'll come back to the article when I finish with this dab repair project. It's good to have an outside, impartial look from fresh eyes, and Peer review helps a lot when you can't find someone. It won't take very long to get the Nainital article into tiptop shape. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I'll see you around – BaseballBaby 21:55, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

I really really really hate templates on article pages that have to do with things that editors are supposed to do. Unless the article is actually misleading (either through direct factual inaccuracy or blatant POV), or so horribly written that it's embarrassing not to have some kind of notice, I think such things should generally be kept to the talk page. Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you've been putting in on the Kipling article - have enjoyed his works ever since having The Just So Stories read to me as a very young boy, I still find something new in him whenever I re-read anything of his. DuncanHill 12:31, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

From Sea to Sea is very interesting - I must read it again. BTW, I have the Pocket Edition in two volumes, one printed 1925 WITH the Swastika, one printed 1926 WITHOUT the Swastika, from a previous owner's inscription it looks like they were bought new together in 1935.

As to Kipling's religious beliefs, have just remembered this from Pinney (Ed) The Letters of Rudyard Kipling, Vol 1:1872 - 89 in a letter to Caroline Taylor. '... I believe in a personal God to whom we are personally responsible for wong doings - that it is our duty to follow and are peril to disobey the ten ethical laws laid down for us by Him or His prophets. I disbelieve directly in eternal punishment for reasons that it would take too long to put down on paper. ... I disbelieve in eternal reward. As regards the mysteries of the Trinity ... [I] cannot give them implicit belief....'. The letter seems to be an attempt to reassure Taylor that (1) RK was not a Roman Catholic, and (2) he was sufficiently religious to be a potential match for her (she was Edmonia Hill's younger sister). I'm sure I've read more about his beliefs and how they developed over the years, when I find it, I'll try to add it! DuncanHill 17:29, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Kipling: The Glass, The Shadow and The Fire by Philip Mason, Jonathan Cape, London, 1975, ISBN 0 224 01128 6 has much on the development of RK's beliefs, particularly relating to the breaking-strain and the value of bearing the suffering of another, and forgiveness. First I want to say what a great job the Wikipedia community has been doing on developing the Rudyard Kipling pages. I am a member of the Kipling Society and been using Wikipedia for a few years but never wanted to edit anything until now. I have however noticed a few factual mistakes which I would like to correct (checked with some of my colleagues), but am reluctant to do this myself as I am a complete novice to editing Wikipedia. A few examples are:

Kipling died in the Middlesex Hospital, London not at his home in Burwash. He died from a perforated duodenal ulcer, not a cerebral haemorrhage. "If—" was first published in 1910 as part of "Rewards and Fairies" not in 1895. (This was the date of the Jameson Raid and might be the reason for the confusion). His occupation was also a writer of short stories, and as a journalist. His genre included short stories and travel articles.

I have a Word file containing the corrections that I would like to see made, so is there anyone out there who can help me? Kipsoc 18:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, it was quite easy to scan and put them together. I have quite a collection of Kipling books, some dating from the early 1900s some later. My grandmother's parents knew the Kipling family in India, both were British imperialists! They collected pretty well all of Kipling's books. I have read a number of them but not all by a long chalk.
